Adam W. Thomas recently completed the Master of Music in Wind Conducting at the University of Louisville, having previously earned a Bachelor of Music Education from UofL in 2009 and a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2010. A native of Henderson, Kentucky, Mr. Thomas served as the Director of Bands at Henderson County High School from 2013 to 2017, after spending a year as the Assistant Director of Bands.
All four years under Mr. Thomas’ direction, the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble received consistent distinguished ratings at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Performance Assessment Festival. The Wind Ensemble received back to back distinguished ratings at the KMEA State Performance Assessment in 2016 and 2017, and was invited to give two performances at the 2016 National Memorial Day Concert Series in Washington, D.C. The Colonels Brigade and Guard gave invitational performances at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis (2017), Disney’s EPCOT in Orlando (2015), and at Busch Stadium in St. Louis (2014 and 2016).
Mr. Thomas is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the Kentucky Music Educators Association, serving as the District 2 Band Chair from 2014 to 2016, and has been published in the Bluegrass Music News. A clarinetist, he has been a member of Chamber Winds Louisville since 2009, including performances at the 2012 and 2017 KMEA Conferences and the 2013 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. He has performed with the University of Louisville Wind Ensemble at the 2007 World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference in Killarney and twice in New York City’s Carnegie Hall, and returned to Carnegie Hall in 2018 to perform with the University of Louisville Singing Cardsmen. Mr. Thomas traveled as a staff member with the Kentucky Ambassadors of Music for three European tours and will do so again in 2020. He was the 2009 Outstanding Senior from the University of Louisville School of Music, was appointed a Kentucky Colonel in 2013, and was inducted into UofL’s chapter of the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society in 2019.
