Rental Contract FAQ’s

1. Do my monthly payments go towards the purchase of the instrument?

Yes. Every penny of your monthly payment goes towards the purchase price of your rental instrument.

2. Is there a maintenance plan for rental instruments?

Miles Ahead Music offers a Maintenance and Replacement option for our rental instruments, which is billed monthly with the rental fee.  The fee is either $3.50 or $5.00 per month, depending on instrument type.  This M&R option may be chosen at the initial time of signing the rental contract; please see rental contract for specific details of coverage.

3. Will I be charged interest?

No. Miles Ahead Music does not charge interest. 100% of your monthly payment goes towards the purchase price of your rental instrument.

4. What if my student doesn’t want to play in band or orchestra anymore?

Simply return the rented instrument to one of our Miles Ahead Music locations and the contract will be cancelled and void. Instruments are NOT ALLOWED to be left with band/orchestra directors, so please make arrangements to drop it off at the nearest location at your convenience.

5. What if my student wants to switch instruments?

If you have spoken with your student’s music director and received approval to switch instruments, you may exchange instruments at one of our Miles Ahead Music locations. If you are moving to an instrument of equal or greater value all of your rental money will transfer. If you are moving to an instrument of lesser value 30% of your rental payments will transfer (Miles Ahead offers a 100% transfer during the 1st 2 months of your rental contract).

6. What do I do if my rental instrument is stolen?

File a police report and give Miles Ahead Music a copy of the police report.  If you have selected to purchase the Maintenance and Replacement Coverage at time of rental, Miles Ahead Music will replace it with an instrument of equal value at time of theft (your account must be up to date).

7. What if my rental instrument is lost?

You (the signee on the contract) are responsible for the discounted payoff amount for the instrument

8. Can someone else pay for my student’s rental instrument?

If another party is going to consistently pay for your student’s rental instrument, that person should be the signee on the contract, and a new contract must be filled out with the new signee’s information.

9. What are the requirements for an instrument rental?

You must have a debit or credit card on file, you or a spouse must be employed, you must have a driver’s license, and you must submit your social security number (SSN).  Miles Ahead Music requires a credit check for all instrument contracts, and this will help determine eligibility for rental.

10. Why do you need my social security number?

Miles Ahead Music uses the SSN to request a credit history through Equifax, to determine the eligibility for renting an instrument.

11. How does Miles Ahead Music keep my private information safe?

All contracts are kept securely locked in a filing cabinet in a locked storage room. Online contracts are protected with a secure server. Your personal information will never be sold or shared by Miles Ahead Music.
