Dr. Ward Mowery brings a wealth of training and experience from various avenues of music. In addition to his training at the U.S. Navy School of Music, Dr. Mowery holds four college degrees in music –B.S and PhD degrees from The Ohio State University, and M.S. and M.M. degrees from the University of Illinois.
His Performance experience includes CINC PAC Fleet Navy Band–Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony Brass Quintet, Kenley Players Summer Stock Orchestra, Lima Symphony Orchestra, Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Wilkes-Barre Philharmonic, Scranton Symphony Orchestra, plus special shows such as The Roy Rogers Show and The Charlie Weaver Show. Dr. Mowery has performed with numerous Jazz Ensembles in Hawaii, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky.
Dr. Mowery’s teaching career spans over 40 years in both the public and private sectors from elementary school to college level. He has taught both band and orchestra in eight different schools and colleges. He has earned superior ratings at the state level in competition with both bands and orchestras. Over half his career was involved teacher preparation at the college level. He has taught music composition and arranging, music appreciation, and music education courses as well as instrumental music.
Dr. Mowery has also served as a church choir director or church musician in nine different churches. He has served as music director for the Danville Light Opera Company in Danville, IOllinoi. During his career he also served as a music adjucator with OMEA and KMEA. In addition to teaching, performing, and writing, Dr. Mowery also tunes pianos. He is married to Anita Mowery who teaches voice and piano.
