Trevor DeJarnett studied trumpet at the University of Louisville while completing his undergraduate degree in music education. He studied under Dr. Michael Tunnell and Dr. Herbert Koerselman. After teaching music full-time in public schools for three years, he returned to the University of Louisville, earning his masters degree in music history and literature. During his graduate studies, Trevor gained experience performing Renaissance works on period instruments and within various vocal groups as a tenor and countertenor under the direction of Dr. Jack Ashworth.
Trevor still performs on trumpet in community groups like the Derby City Brass Band and occasionally for wedding venues. However, he is a much more avid concertgoer than performer, traveling when possible to hear rare modern music performances.
